nappy rash with cloth - 09:00 PM
this is weird. i've finally dug out some of smiley's cloth nappies & have been using them for at least half of today. since i've put them on him he's had the worst nappy rash he's had since he was born.
when i say the worst, it's not actually all that bad, but it's spread over quite a wide area. when he's had nappy rash before, it's usually been just a tiny spot here or there. it doesn't happen often anyway.
i left him without his nappy for his afternoon sleep & also put some papaw ointment on it & it cleared up really quickly, but with each cloth nappy it returned just that little bit more.
i have no idea why this would be happening! he's worn these very nappies before. in fact, he's worn this type ever since he was born.
i had a thought that maybe it was some washing powder residue, but i haven't changed the type that i use so if there was going to be any residue it would have affected him long before now.
hmmm. i wonder ..
the last time i used them was in childers. after i'd washed them the last time to pack them away ready to leave childers, i left them out on the clothes airer for a number of days to make sure they were bone dry before i packed them. there's a lot of bagasse dust floating around in childers. i wonder if the dust has got into the nappies & is not agreeing with his skin? they weren't crushing when we were there toward the end, but there was still a large pile of the stuff at the back of the mill which was in our backyard.
i think i might wash all the cloth nappies before i put anymore on him.
poor little thing. his bottom is all red & pimply sore looking. he's running around without a nappy at the moment. that should help to clear it up ready for a night in a nappy. i'll use a disposable tonight since they haven't seemed to give him any trouble.
double rinsing is a good idea. the water there may be harder and not easy to rinse things out like you are used to.
I just can't get over the fact that you're letting him run around without anything on his little bottom---you are a brave woman. That's tempting fate in a way I wouldn't be brave enough to do.
Either that or all the floors in your house are covered in linoleum.

try double rinsing maybe the rinse is not removing all the soap due to the size of the load.
