cold little baby girl - 09:26 AM
when i was at the markets yesterday there was a young mother with a friend (maybe a sister?). they were just market goers, not stall holders. for some reason, the mother left her little baby girl with an older lady there who was selling raffle tickets. when i spoke to the lady about the baby, i asked how old she was & she didn't know (i guessed at maybe six months or so), so i'm assuming they didn't actually know each other before this .. which makes me wonder why she was leaving her baby with the lady.
the baby girl was dressed in a long all in one suit, kind of like the bonds ones, but maybe just a bit thicker. it was really cold there yesterday with a really cold wind, too. i had long pants, a t-shirt, a long sleeved shirt over the t-shirt & a medium weight coat on over that, with long ugg boots on as well. what the little baby girl was wearing was way too thin for that weather. the lady & i were talking about how the poor little baby must have been really cold.
she was, too. in fact, she was crying because she was so cold, despite the lady holding her close & trying to spread out a scarf over her, which was all she had to use, to keep her warm. i felt so sorry for the poor little baby that i took off my coat & gave it to the lady to put over her. it was just as well i had long sleeves on because i would have frozen otherwise. as it was, i was quite cold without my coat on, but i couldn't bear to see the baby so cold. within about a minute of putting my coat over her, she settled down & stopped crying. i was happy to be cold to help her out. the poor little babe.
the silly mum. i mean, if the little girl was old enough to be running around, yeah, she might have been warm then, but she was too young for that & her mum had her just sitting in a little stroller with not even a blanket for her. the young mum was definitely old enough to know better .. well, you would have thought so anyway. well, i guess she didn't know better though. it's terrible!
she left her baby with this older lady for at least forty-five minutes, maybe an hour, before she & her friend came back to get the babe.
the lady wasn't impressed at all. neither was i. i'm still quite angry about it today.
aside from the cold, why on earth would anyone leave their baby with a stranger anyway??
Some people are just complete idiots!! Should have to be licenced to have children I say!

What I've seen in canberra in the mornings is mums running along with their kids in those 'sporty' 3-wheeled strollers... it's probably 2 degrees, then the windchill with moving, god I hope those kids are rugged up.
