toilet training - 07:26 PM

after reading about an amazing concept, nappy-free babies (sad that it's amazing to us in the western world but common elsewhere), i decided to start deprogramming smiley that his clothes (i.e. nappies) are the place for going to the toilet. he's a really quick learner!

after reading about how most of the world show their babies the right place to go to the toilet from almost day one, it's no wonder we have so much trouble toilet training when we teach them to go in their pants for two years then wonder why they're confused!

i'll be mentioning bodily functions from here on, so if you can't handle that sort of thing, stop reading now.

i've been using the method of letting him run around without a nappy & watching for signs of having to go to the toilet. i only bought him a potty last monday & began seriously trying to teach him the right way since thursday & already he's telling me that he has to go to the toilet & sometimes getting on there himself to do a wee. so far he's still waited until he's had a nappy on to do a poo, but i'm very pleased with his progress so far.

one time he even told me when he had a nappy on that he needed the toilet so i took his nappy off & we went to his little toilet for him to go.

with the nappy off thing, we've only had a few little clean ups needed, including two poos on the carpet, but fortunately nothing too messy. there's been no punishments or scolding. if he poos or wees elsewhere, i just quickly put him on his toilet so he can finish & then clean up, telling him that the toilet is the place for poos or wees, not the floor.

i've been putting his nappy back on at night, but as we get better during the day then i'll start trying to go nappy free at night, too.
