smiley just put his shorts on all by himself. well, not totally by himself, i did help to straight them out a bit when his foot was getting stuck, but aside from that, he did it all.
they ended up on back to front & his (very cute little) bum was hanging out, but he did so well that we showed daddy. hehe.

today i bought myself my first real hat. by 'real', i mean that i bought it purely for shade, not even the slightest bit for fashion (aside from choosing the style that suited me best, of course).
now that i've been doing the markets every sunday, i've been finding that i've been getting a bit sunburned from standing around in the sun. i've been wearing a cap, but that only shades the front of my face & with getting there so early & leaving by lunch time, the sun's relatively low in the sky for most of the time i'm there, so i really needed something to shade the back of my neck as well as my ears .. basically, my whole head.
i didn't want a fashionable hat which might be all sorts of colours. i wanted something to go with any neat casual clothes that i happen to wear, so the only choice was a farmer's hat. in this case, an akubra. i chose the coober pedy style (third one from the bottom & in the same colour as pictured, 'sand') since the others sat up too high & made me look as though i had a cone head.
so now that i have this hat, am i a real country girl? lol! 
i'll try to get a pic of me wearing it, but i want to get at least a half decent picture, so don't hold your breath, okay?
