smiley grumpy - 12:13 PM

smiley has been a real grumpy-bum the last few days. yesterday & the day before he had a bit of a fever, but he's been grumpy before that & he's still grumpy today. i guess it must be related to whatever it is that was causing the fever. i can't see any obvious signs of why he's so unsettled, so i've just been comforting him as much as i can & trying not to be driven crazy by the almost constant whining.

aside from the grumpiness, it's been a bit more diffcult than usual for me since there's no one else for smiley to turn to for his usual needs & wants with shroom being away. having shroom's mum here will be good, since there'll then be two people between which smiley can divide his 'loving attentions'.

there could be one other reason that he might be grumpy & it's to do with bodily functions, so if that sort of thing grosses you out, stop reading here.

even since i've been leaving him without a nappy for most of the day so that he can learn to use the toilet (& he's been doing really well in regard to peeing) he's not been keen to poo. previously, he'd be a one poo a day kid, but since he now knows where the proper place to go the toilet is, he's not keen to poo.

he tells me he needs to do a poo, but gets all upset about doing one on the toilet. only twice has he done one either on the big toilet or in his little toilet. if he is wearing a nappy, then he still tells me but then doesn't seem to want to do it in his nappy either, even with me telling him that it's okay if he wants to poo in his nappy.

so now he usually does a poo once every two days. he's not blocked up at all, because they're normal consistency, but he just seems to hold on instead of going once a day as he did before.

.. but he hasn't had a bowel motion in three days now & i'm beginning to wonder if he might be constipated & that's why he's so unsettled.

i'm going to order some prunes & some prune juice with my next groceries (i've been buying organic for a few months now) so i'll see if he'll have some prunes or some of the juice & that might help.

he may just be undecided about the toilet training and its upsetting him some. as with all things, it too will pass.

Totally happened with all my kids. We're going through it right now with the 4th. Not sure what the fear is about letting the poo go. I'm sure the shrinks have all kids of theories.

But all of the first three finally got to using the toilet for all their business. With no adverse effects because of the reluctance that I can see.

So take heart. This too shall pass (both figuratively and literally). *smile*
