huge news!! - 01:11 PM
i've known about the possibilty of this for about a couple of weeks now, but haven't been able to post about it because no official word had been given. however, now that we know & they know, i can tell you all, too!
shroom got a new job & we're going to go to live in bahrain!! seriously!
bahrain is a tiny little island off the east coast of saudi arabia. many people think it must be a dangerous place to live because of the area that it's in, but it's actually one of the safer places to live. i've heard from various people around that their uncle/cousin/brother etc visited/lived there for so many weeks/years & that they loved it. they reckon that it's a really great place to bring up children, too.
it's predominantly a muslim country, but it's one of the more liberal countries in the area, where even alcohol is allowed. my dad visited there years ago when he was stationed in the sinai with the peace keeping force & said that it's a very nice place. he mentioned the huge shopping centres full of just gold. it's an extremely wealthy country.
his new job is with an international freight company that has offices in more than 220 countries, so the scope of places we could move to with the company is huge!!
shroom's given his notice at the college & will be finishing up on the 21st of this month. we'll stay here in this house for another week or so after that & get ready for the move. we'll be marking which things are going to come with us, which things are going to be thrown in the bin & which things we'll sell in a huge garage sale before we leave. his new job will be paying for the move, so there's a huge saving there.

i'm really excited about it. i just can't wait to get there & immerse myself in the culture, try the food, go to the local markets. it's such an exciting thing to do. smiley will undoubtedly learn arabic alongside english & will probably end up being able to teach us some arabic. we hope to go to arabic classes while we're there so we can learn the local language, although with a third of the population there being expatriates, you can get by just fine with english as long as you know the arabic numbers.
