selling up - 09:27 AM
last night we spoke to a lady calling from bahrain about our move. we found out that there's a limit to what we can bring with us. we were originally intending to bring most of our decent furniture, or at least the furniture that's expensive to replace, & get an unfurnished place in bahrain to save a bit of money. there's plenty of accommodation in bahrain which is furnished or semi-furnished, but the unfurnished places are cheaper, for obvious reasons.
now that we're only going to be taking clothing, things with great sentimental value, or things which simply can't be replaced, we're going to have to get a furnished place instead.
it also means that we're going to have to sell much more than we originally intended. putting things in storage indefinitely is not a viable option for us, so it either sells or it gets given away to saint vinnie's or the like. anything which we definitely want to keep but can't take with us, then we'll have to ask family to store it for us, but we'll have to be choosy since it's not really fair on them to load up their storage space with our stuff.
i'm about to try to find out if there's a pawn shop around here, like cash converters or something, since maybe they might offer us a bit more money for the big things such as our perfectly good fridge & upright freezer. most garage salers wouldn't want to pay even close to what they're worth.
it's probably a good thing to have this huge purge, i suppose. cleaning out the old crap in your physical life can help your head clear as well. i just hope that we can get a relatively decent amount of cash for our stuff since it's going to cost us a bit to reestablish ourselves if & when we eventually return to australia. although really, i suppose it's more that we want the physical representation of the lives we've lived so far to be worth what we think it's worth .. you know?

i wouldn't count on cash converters giving you anything decent.
