mammoth task - 11:47 PM
my goodness. what a mammoth task that was. we've finally finished packing everything which we'll be taking to bahrain. the actual packing, i.e. making everything ready to be transported safely, was easy because it was done by a moving company since we figured it might be worth the peace of mind knowing that it had been done properly.
making the list of what we wanted to take with us, estimating the weight of each item (since we are limited to 350kg), taking lots of items off, sorting through boxes of things with sentimental value & throwing most of it in the bin, taking more items off the list, weighing them properly & discovering we are exceptionally bad at guessing weights, taking more items off the list, packing those few items left on the list into boxes, re-weighing everything, removing more items from the boxes & weighing again - well, you get the picture - that was really, really tough.
the last job we had to do tonight, at least in regard to the things we are taking with us, was to weigh all the packed items, number the boxes, make a note of the dimensions of each one & send off a list so that the shipping of them to bahrain can be organised. initially when we weighed the items we found we were going to be about 56kg over weight! after about half an hour of major stress, trying to decide what we would leave behind when we discovered that it would cost far too much to bring the extra weight, we weighed it all again with the scales on hard floor instead of carpet. some things had been more then 10kg out!!
so it's done. we're practically ready. one more garage sale, pack the car with things we'll be bringing to brisbane, give the rest of our stuff to a charity & that's everything, we'll be out of here.
after all that work, you wouldn't have time to worry about moving to a new place/country at all.
