new residence - 10:00 PM
we've found ourselves a new residence. i went out today with a british expatriate real estate agent who has been living in bahrain for about five years. he showed me various apartments, villas & a compound (the tour included one particularly disturbing comment as we passed a compound. he indicated at the wall as we drove past & said, "that used to be a good compound, but now it's full of indians." i was kind of dumbstruck & wasn't able to make a response).
so anyway, racist comments aside, we looked at about five or six places. the one i deemed most suitable (given a blessing by shroom on my description of it) is a two storey place within a small villa comprised of five or six apartments. there were two available there, one with apartments on either side & one on the corner. i chose the one on the corner because it has windows where the other one doesn't & the balcony (small, but a sizable one for a place where balconies are expensive) has a view from two sides instead of just one.
it also has its own lock up garage with a door entering directly into the apartment. as part of the deal we'll be getting a full time housekeeper who'll do two meals a day, shopping, washing, ironing, cleaning & maybe even look after smiley for part of the day so that i can start making more jewellery. woohoo! it's perfect.
we sign the lease tomorrow, but at this stage i'm not sure when we'll be moving. as soon as possible, i guess. the move shouldn't be too difficult since we didn't bother unpacking most of the few possessions we brought with us to bahrain.
Gosh Coralie, hope this posts. Looks to me as if you and your little family are going to have many different and fun experiences. Riley is adorable.
Nice to hear that you've found yourselves a new apartment - at least with a balcony you've got a little bit of outdoor space in which to escape! All the best with (another) move...look forward to reading more of your tales! And to see some more of your wonderful jewellery!
that is great that you guys have found a place of your own - woohoo at the housekeeper!

Wait a minute!! When I was in Bahrain in '01, I had a butler (male servant). Did he cook? No! What gives?
