chicken pox? - 10:12 PM

shroom managed to go to the doctor today after his work insisted that he go (perhaps since he had to take the day off, perhaps since they saw him yesterday at work & saw the progression of his blisters). he rang the hospital for an appointment but there was still no space for him. he was advised by his work to just go there anyway.

when he fronted up, they took one look at him & took him straight in to take a closer look. a specialist wasn't due until later that day, but they must have called him & asked him to come in especially, because he was there in ten minutes to see shroom. i guess he looked pretty contagious.

their prognosis was chicken pox, but we're not sure if that's really the case since there's no itching at all & usually chicken pox will drive you crazy with the itching. at least that's what we thought.

they've given him a course of zovirax to take over ten days as well as instructions to not return to work for that same amount of time. let's hope it starts to make a difference. poor shroom is pretty miserable. as well as being in pain, the blisters themselves (there are welts under each blister now) & head & body aches, he's had to cancel his trip to be thailand to be best man for his best friend, stu. not very good.

blisters all over - 09:28 AM

shroom's really sick. a couple of nights ago he went to bed with a bad headache & a bit of a fever. he woke up at about 3am with excruciating gut pain & after what he said was the the most impressive bowel action he'd ever performed his guts felt a hundred percent better .. but he then woke me to show me some very strange blisters over his torso. they were smallish, but oval shaped. he'd burst a couple of them, accidentally or otherwise, & said that they really stung (as blisters do).

they were quite odd & i'd never seen anything like them. he must have been quite worried to wake me to show me, because normally he'd have to have a leg almost severed or something to tell me that he was in pain.

i suggested he look up the symptoms on the internet & see what came up. when he came to bed a bit later he said that the results of his search told him it was some sort of poisoning, most likely from food, but perhaps from a spider. we don't see all that spiders around here (i think i've seen one since we've been here) so it's probably food poisoning from one of the cafeterias at his work. if it was something that we'd eaten at home i'd be sick as well.

yesterday at work he developed more blisters. some on his head & neck, & down further on his buttocks & legs as well. last night he was shivering with a fever, so i got up to put a blanket on him (even though he was burning up & the last advice we got about a severe fever was that he actually needed to cool down, but he said he felt that a cold shower would kill him) & get him some panadol to try to reduce the fever. it worked a bit because he managed to get to sleep & threw off the blanket. this morning he's still quite warm, although somewhat better, so i gave him some more panadol.

tonight he's leaving for thailand for his best mate's wedding & he's quite worried that he's not going to be well for it. let's hope a day of rest today will help a bit. he's not a terribly vain person, but he's also worried that he'll look all spotty & freaky for the wedding pictures. poor shroom. i feel sorry for him.

let's hope he feels a bit better by tonight. i might make sure he packs some panadol in his hand luggage & encourage him to take them when he's due for more.
