cold & a cough - 04:43 AM

smiley & i have been sick with a cold or a cough, or both, for about three weeks now. since we've come to bahrain i guess we've come across bugs to which we've never been exposed before, so we have no natural resistance to them. we've been sick with something each about once a month on average. we'd better have been developing antibodies while we've been sick because i'm getting a bit tired of it!
smiley had a terribly snotty nose for just over a week & i thought he was starting to get better, but in the last day or so has been snotting up a storm & started to develop a fever this afternoon. i've been treating him through the night for it & it's helping. poor little thing is burning up again by the time he's due for more.
[smiley woke up as i was writing this last night so it's now almost 11am as i continue writing.]
i started out with a cough, but it was dry & wasn't bothering me so much except for a bit of a sore throat. i thought i was getting over that until i then developed a head cold as well & had sinus pain & much mucous. now my lungs are full of stuff, too.
my cough is driving me crazy. it's one of those where you get that awful tickle in your throat & you just can't repress the cough. actually, you can repress it for a limited amount of time, like maybe two very long minutes as you concentrate really hard on not coughing, but then finally you just have to cough. there is stuff in my lungs which is comng up when i cough, but not quickly enough for me & not every time i cough. so i'm having big body-wracking coughing fits which are just producing a headache & a really sore body.
i've actually figured out that if i cough in a certain way, that i don't have to end up so sore from coughing. i have to have two or three sets of smaller coughs, done with only a half breath & then i can take a deep breath & have a really big cough & stuff will actually move.
it's always worse at night & i end up waking in the early hours having to cough for about half an hour, which is why i was up writing this originally so i wouldn't wake shroom. smiley seems to be able to sleep through my coughing.
ergh. i hope these horrible colds & coughs go away soon.
three weeks that a long time.I am wondering if you shouldn't see a doctor just to make sure it is just a cold
maybe you are alergic to something there. my doctor prescribes tessalon pearls they are tiny liquid capsuels and they stop the cough right away. Hope you feel better soon."HUGS"
Ugh, those tickly coughs are the worst. I know just what you mean about only being able to hold on for 2 very long minutes then you can't help it - it seems to always happen somewhere like the cinema, where you try desperately not to disturb everyone, but you just about pop like a balloon with the effort of holding it in....

3-weeks? that is maddening. perhaps the drier air is part of it. i seem to be almost over mine but i took stuff that knocked me out while it worked over the cold. hope you get better soon.
