hair removal by thread - 10:48 PM
i'm guessing this isn't strictly a bahraini way of doing things, nor even a generally arab way of doing things, but the other day, i had my eyebrows done (i.e. tidied up, shaped, etc) with thread!
i'd never heard of it before. i'd gone to a place previously who did it in the usual way, at least usual to me, of using wax, but i wasn't totally happy with the job they were doing, so i tried a new salon just near the british club.
the place calls itself a ladies' slimming & beauty salon so when i walked in, i asked initially if they did eyebrow waxing, because i wasn't sure exactly what services were covered in the 'beauty' part of their name. when she told me, no, they didn't do it, & that they used thread, i had to ask her to repeat herself, because i'd never heard of such a thing.
so i gave it a go. basically, she wrapped some normal thread around her fingers so that it twisted in the middle. the twisted part is placed on the skin near the hairs to be removed & then manipulated in such a way that it wraps itself around the hair & pulls the hair out as the thread is moved & twisted some more. must take some practice. i said as much to her & she agreed.
the thread can take out much shorter & finer hairs than wax can, so the results are much better. it hurts a little more than waxing because it takes longer, but i think it's worth it. if you're going to go to the trouble of getting your eyebrows (or any other facial hair) done, you may as well get it done right.
i saw this done on some celebrity hollywood thing & how its the in thing now but of course costs a fortune there!!
i got it done in New York while i was there... loved the results!! now i'm trying to find someone in sydney that does it...
