gastro all gone - 02:08 PM
smiley's gastro seems to have gone now.
on day six, we almost had a spew free day. almost. we got all the way to about 10pm before there was any spewing, & it was because of an orange juice incident which was out of my hands. shroom had taken smiley down the road with him to get him out of my hands for an hour or so, a lovely break for me, & when he came back, i asked him if he'd given smiley anything to eat or drink when he was out.
i hadn't thought to check with shroom to make sure he knew to give smiley only tiny sips of drink at a time & that i'd been avoiding feeding him anything too dairy-like, oily, or strong flavoured. however, when i asked about what he'd consumed, he cheerfully told me how smiley had been really thirsty & when he'd bought him a glass of orange juice (almost always from freshly squeezed oranges) & he'd drunk the whole lot down really quickly, he wanted another one & that smiley had just as enthusiastically swallowed that one down as well.
can you imagine the effect of fully acidic orange juice, two glasses worth in fact, drunk in quick succession, on a sickly, almost empty stomach that had consumed hardly more than three pieces of almost dry toast & maybe two small bottles of water in six days? as soon as he told me this i asked how long ago he'd drunk them. when he told me "about ten minutes", i immediately asked him to pass me the vomit bowl.
smiley had been lying on the couch next to me, either tired or feeling nauseous, but when he started spacking his lips a little bit, i knew that a vomit wasn't too far away. the poor little thing brought up all his orange juice .. unfortunately rather more fragrant the second time it hit fresh air.
since that day, everything's been fine. on day seven he seemed to have his appetite back & over the last twenty-four hours he's been grazing almost non-stop. so he's definitely over it. there's not even been anymore diarrhoea.
i'm very pleased he's better & that he's hungry. with him being such a slender little kid anyway, when he didn't eat for a few days, he started to get skinny right away. it was unsettling seeing him so thin. if his renewed eating habits stick around for a few days, he should have his lovely little softly rounded arms & legs back in no time.
