tough morning, but some fun - 02:10 PM

ergh. this morning has been one of those days with smiley. he went to bed quite early last night (early for him, at least, 9:30pm) so this morning he woke up at around 6am .. much too early for mummy.
so i started out tired, not a good recipe for dealing with a day of the usual toddler things. i was already getting really impatient with him before 9am, not to mention not being able to have the full roam of the house since shroom had stayed up all night playing his game (
i had to go to pick up our scuba gear from the shop where it was having a service/inspection to make sure everything was still in good nick, so smiley & i left the house at about quarter to ten. he was so spingly all the way there (i'll define 'spingly' for you one of these days. in the meantime, think whingy, tired, hitting, biting, spitting, general toddler 'naughtiness', you know?) & i knew that it would take time to pick up the gear & to arrange hire of a couple of other things. it took just under an hour .. with smiley trying to touch, remove, bang, hit, roll, sit on, etc, just about anything he could get his hands on, while i was trying to deal with paying money, answering my mobile phone, loading the car on top of attempting to stop him from touching everything.
i hadn't had any breakfast, so when i was done at the scuba shop, i took him to a shopping mall not too far away that has a food court where we could get some lunch. he sat down with me for a bit & then saw a couple of young boys across the other side of the food hall playing on a kind of stage set up at the back. he went to join them & they began an impromptu game of chasie, with them running & smiley chasing them.
the food hall wasn't too busy, with only perhaps five or six small groups of people taking up tables scattered around the circular food hall area, so i could easily see his little blonde head just above the tables, racing up & down between the tables & chairs. periodically he returned for some more food, or just to make sure i was still where he'd left me, but for about half an hour or more, he chased the two boys around with much glee & much giggling.
after a little while a young girl from the same group of people as the two boys began to help him chase the boys. since smiley's head was so low compared to the tables, he had trouble seeing the boys when they got too far away, so she held his hand & helped to keep track of them & chase them. i got a nice picture on my phone of her & smiley. i'll upload it later & link to it.
when it was time to go for the group of people to whom the kids belonged, they walked past me from the other side of the food hall to the entrance/exit where i was sitting & we all said a quick hello & goodbye. smiley gave his young girlfriend & another young girl a kiss goodbye on the cheek. it was all very cute & there were the appropriate gushy & "oh, how sweet!" noises made around the group.
so despite having a kind of hard morning, there was a small break in it with me able to just sit back & relax & watch him have fun.
lets just say that spingly equates to terrible 2. ....and such a gentleman with the ladies.
