first birthday party invite - 10:38 PM

smiley got his first invite to a birthday party a couple of weeks ago & he attended it a few days ago. it was one which was arranged with the play centre at toys 'r' us at the seef mall. there were games, prizes, food & of course, the wonderful play things which are always there with the big climbing, sliding, adventure houses (one for babies & one for slightly older kids), small rides in which you put your coins & a good sized jumping castle.
the party was for dominick & maya, two of the most gorgeous little kids i've come across. they're twins & it was their second birthday.
there was a really close call with the birthday cake. i had just finished pouring myself a soft drink when erin (one of the mums who goes to the playgroup on mondays) called my attention to smiley standing up on the chair at the head of the party table, the one for the birthday kid. she said that she'd seen him just in time to stop him placing a hand on, & undoubtedly about to take a big handful of, the birthday cake. it was so close, in fact, that he'd left three small fingerprints on the chocolate icing.
i was breathing huge sighs of relief for about half an hour after that. if she hadn't been there to catch him before it happened, i could just imagine me turning around to see him with a handful of cake & perhaps much of it smeared all over his face. he meant no harm, of course, he just wanted to try the cake .. but i'm so glad erin was there. i would have been insanely embarrassed & would have apologised to dominick & maya's mum & dad about a million times. phew!!
aside from the almost cake incident (& the obligatory child throwing up all over herself & the floor, poor little darling) & smiley being rather more rough than his usual self (he kept trying to jump or roll all over other kids on the jumping castle) the party was quite a success. all the kids seemed to really enjoy themselves.
