tax?!! - 11:48 AM
oh my gosh. i should have a 'you have got to be kidding me?!!!' category.
shroom did some research online at the australian tox office site last night & it seems that even as non-residents of australia, we have to pay tax on his earnings in a country where there is no tax. not only that, but he doesn't get the tax-free threshold & gets taxed at a higher rate.
that is so unbelieveably & absolutely ridiculous! not to mention rude & blood-sucking!
oh .. but there is one consession. we don't have to pay the medicare levy .. all $3 a year of it. wow. that's a relief.
ugh!!! argh!!!!
i've seen the same thing here for states that have "state income tax". (florida doesn't.) does seem unfair. i guess you are still a citizen if not a physical resident. must be how they view it.
I think it's different for different countries. I worked in Japan and paid tax there, so I didn't have to here, at least I hope I didn't!.
