pedicure - 06:11 PM
i had my frist ever pedicure this afternoon. it was interesting & somewhat scary. the scary bit was when she loaded a really sharp looking little blade into a contraption that she then scraped along my heels & the balls of my feet. thank god that thing didn't come loose!
i felt i needed one because not only were the soles of my feet stained almost black from walking around inside with no shoes (it's too dirty & dusty outside to wear shoes inside. i really must get a pair of slippers for in the house) where the floors get dirty really quickly from all the dust outside, but my heels were really cracked & i'd developed super thick callouses on the bottoms of my feet.
i know the bottom of your feet are meant to be tough, but seriously, my feet were looking as though they belonged to a barefoot construction worker .. albeit a barefoot contruction worker with very small feet.
i've never had cracked heels before i started wearing open shoes all the time. in summer in bahrain it's simply too hot to wear closed in shoes. i'm a boot wearing girl myself (at least, i was previously) so my feet had never really seen all that much open air, especially such hot, humid & dusty open air.
i wondered if it was just me, but no, from talking to a few other ladies around here, it's an open shoe issue. i might start having to put some papaw ointment on my feet at night to stop them getting so bad again.
these things don't usually worry me at all, except that they were getting so cracked that chunks of dead skin were breaking off. it was kind of gross & not good if i then tried to remove the chunks by pulling them off. ouch!
the main reason i wanted them to look better, though, is because i'm wearing some lovely strappy heels for my mum's wedding. it's a big occasion for her. i want to present myself in a nice manner .. all the way down to my feet.
it came off - 05:59 PM
it amuses me greatly when smiley comes to me with a toy or some such thing of which he's tried really hard to pull bits & pieces off & has succeeded. usually they're not toys that are built to last anyway, so generally i'm not all that worried.
what's funny though, is when he comes to me, proudly showing me the piece he's broken off & says, "came off," as if it just came off of it's own accord! no effort on his part at all. must have been poor workmanship for it to just fall off all on it's own like that.
not so high maintenance - 12:24 AM
at the risk of jinxing myself, smiley's been less 'high maintenance' than usual over the past three or four days. he's been amusing himself for ten or fifteen minutes at a time, which is unheard of for the past few months.
i've had time not only to catch up on people's blogs & at the beading forum, but even to make some jewellery!
i hope this trend continues. mind you, since we're heading to australia in three days, any routine we might have will undoubtedly change. let's hope the ability to amuse himself for more than three minutes continues.
