lovely in chiang mai - 05:46 AM

things are going really well here. i've had lots of sleep & we've been exploring the place a little bit. nothing further than walking distance so far, but that's okay, because the people are lovely & that's mostly what i like about travelling to other places: meeting new people. 
today (weather permitting), we're going to go on an ultralight flight. can't wait. i've never been on such a small flying machine before. only ever been large jets. very exciting. tomorrow we're booked on a day trek to see the hill tribes & the silver mine there. that will be absolutely awesome! i'm really, really looking forward to that.
chiang mai is really great. there's not a mcdonalds or kfc in sight. there are no huge shopping malls. the street we're staying on is full of little bars & shops & you certainly don't lack for anything, but it's so non-western. there are many restaurants around where they have a great range of foods on offer. many of the shops or restaurants are owned by westerners, but run by locals, so they have a broad menu to cater for both local & western tastes. really yummy & fresh & delicious.
