re-establishing - 07:44 PM

re-establishing smiley & i in australia is really expensive. it probably wouldn't be so bad if we'd been able to take everything with us from bahrain, or else have been able to keep the stuff which we had to get rid of to go to bahrain, but mind you, it would have cost thousands of dollars more to get there & back if we had kept all our stuff. as it is, the extra stuff which is on its way (soon) from bahrain is already going to cost more than $2000 (AUD) to ship back.

even with some major furniture items being donated or lent by family, there's still so much more that i need as time goes on just for making life easy & comfortable. there's the car, various household items such as a fridge, shelving, even small things like cooking utensils. i already got lots of cooking things from family, but there are always a few things that you don't have which you can't steal from them. lol!!

it's not so bad, though, i've been doing it slowly but surely over the few weeks since i've been back. there are still quite a number of more expensive items to come, but nothing which can't wait for a month or two. for instance, i need to get a computer desk for mine & for smiley's computer. since i'm not planning to go anywhere soon, i'm trying to buy wisely & get quality items which i know i'll be able to use for a long time & which i also like enough to not want to have to replace before they wear out.

thank goodness for ikea, because i've seen so many great things there for really fantastic prices. hehe.

i'm actually quite enjoying the process. it's nice to be able to choose the things with which i'm surrounding myself & it's a nice challenge for me to make it just as i want without spending too much.

getting settled - 07:30 PM

yesterday i took a trip to ikea to get some sets of drawers for my room & smiley's room. i'd been looking in the catalogue quite a bit & had already decided on what i wanted for smiley's room.

for him, i got one which is a set of drawers that sort of steps up in three sections. the first section has runners for two drawers, the second for four & the third for six. the drawers are coloured plastic tub type things in different depths. there are three different types (three links there) in his, with each type a different colour (not like in this link where the tubs are all the same size & colour. also, smiley's is white as above, not pine), so it looks really nice & colourful. perfect for the room of a three year old. i was possibly intending to fit them into the built in wardrobes, but it looks nice against the wall & when i asked smiley which he preferred, he said he liked them where they were, so the decision was made.

i got myself a similar set of drawers, but mine is just one tall section with space for six drawers. most of my clothes are hanging in the wardrobe, so i really only need the drawers for undies & socks & the like. i think i will put mine into the wardrobe since with a queen size bed in the room, i don't have as much space for other things. there's one good wall for furniture, so eventually i'll probably put some sort of dressing table & mirror against it. i also need at least one bedside table as well, but that'll be for another week when the bank balance bounces up again.

i'll take some pics soon, of course, but things are still looking a bit suitcasey & messy, so once everything is more in place, i'll take pics then.

blogging freedom again - 07:22 PM

it's so nice to be back online to be able to blog whenever i wish. i know that sometimes i seem to blog about silly, random things, but it really is a social thing for me. it's just like i'm talking to my friends in real life & when i can't write about the funny little things that pop into my head about how i'm enjoying life, then i feel rather isolated.

i don't see all that many people in real life all that often, what with most people having working lives & me staying at home looking after smiley every day, so to be able to blog about what i'm thinking or doing is a big part of my social life.

i do get out to visit friends & family occasionally, but in the meantime, blogging does it for me.

woohooooooo! i'm online! from home!

my modem arrived by courier at about midday. smiley was ready for his sleep, so with the utmost patience, i actually had a sleep first & then set it up. it was dead easy. i plugged it in & it worked right away. very, very cool.

yay! *yay!*
