laundry chute - 04:30 PM

much to my joy, there's a laundry chute in my new house!
the way it's been built, though, it's only partly functional. the bottom of it is really shallow, so things start dropping out of it onto the floor of the laundry after only four or so items have been thrown down from upstairs.
i could have bought some sort of basket for the bottom, but the space is quite small, so i had difficultiy finding a basket which would fit. my solution was to build a kind of removable catcher to attach to the side of the space. i made it from two old coat hangers & a mesh laundry bag.
i'm pretty pleased with how well it turned out. i paid a fair bit of attention to making sure the mesh was sewn on completely straight. not only was i being anal about it because it might not have fit over the frame right if i hadn't been careful with it, but i knew that it would bug me everytime i saw it if the fabric was all skewiff.
the stretchiness of it has actually pulled in the middle of each long side a smidge, but it still covers the space properly. it's held on by two hooks at the top & one hook at the bottom with that hook placed upside down so that you stretch out the bottom of the frame slightly to unhook it.
i do so love a laundry chute. i was so stoked after i'd moved in & realised it was there! not only are they practical, but there's just something so satisfying & fun about dropping stuff down the hole & seeing/hearing it fall to the bottom. smiley likes it, too. lol! 
Always so practical and clever my dear! There's a laundry shute at my mum and dad's place. Beware for Smiley though, I remember getting stuck in it as a kid coz I was so fascinated with it. I climbed in but couldn't go up or down so had to yell till someone rescued me. I was about Smiley's age too!

Clever! We've got a laundry shute too, and it's good for our indoor cat 'cause he can go up and downstairs whenever he likes!
