two more house pics - 10:35 PM
two more pics of things going on around my place:
- my dotty bed set.
- the many, many empty boxes to which i referred in this entry.
painting a chair - 10:32 PM
okay, so it's not exactly creative, per se, to simply change the colour of a chair, but it's still a creative process & i'm quite pleased with how it's turned out. the pieces for the other chair & the table are still drying from their first coast of paint, so i guess i'll take a picture of the whole set once it's all together:

karaoke vampire boy - 07:11 PM
this morning i woke to a moving van & some moving guys shifting stuff to or from the adjoining unit next door to me. i'm hoping that the guy there (i've decided to call him karaoke vampire boy since he never seems to sleep at night but instead has private parties where he plays music loudly, slowly degenerating to country music, which he then sings along to .. or else he has friends over who talk loudly, along with slightly quieter music since the previous occasion when i stood outside his door at 3:30am with a sleepy smiley in my arms, knocking loudly until he could finally hear me when the song finished) is moving out.
either that or someone else is moving in with him. if someone's moving in, let's hope they like to actually sleep at night & might influence his nocturnal music leanings.
i must admit that it's only happened twice where the music was loud enough for me to hear it & only the one occasion where i had to go there to ask him to turn it down, but twice in five weeks or so is more than enough for me.
if he is moving out, i wish for a new neighbour who doesn't look as though he's about to keel over from poor living habits & who likes his music (preferably not country) at a more normal volume level.
only three boxes to go - 05:23 PM
smiley spent a couple of hours this afternoon with shroom & nanna & poppy at their place & so i used the time to put away a few more things from some boxes. the second shipment of boxes arrived with no troubles last week & so i've been collecting them one or two at a time from their house. i have everything here now .. well, minus my computer keyboard which shroom was borrowing while he had some issues with his wireless one.
so now there are only three boxes left to unpack .. & of those three, two are only partly full since i've been working on them since they arrived with the first shipment. the only box which i haven't opened is smiley's big toy chest thing. it's not full of his toys, though, except his large tip truck thing, but rather it has bulky, but mostly empty things in it like a large bucket, a couple of step stools, the sort of things which take up a lot of space, but which aren't heavy. the toy chest itself is quite sturdy & empty space in itself, so i figured it was a good place for things which would be a bit of a pain to pack into cardboard boxes.
there's not actually much in that box that i need to use at this point. i'll not let that give me a reason to procrastinate packing away the things within it, though. i'm so close now that i'm keen to finish getting everything away into their proper places.
once that's done, all i need to do is get rid of the copious numbers of boxes filled with packing paper & ikea packaging that's cluttering up the garage. thank goodness i have the garage to keep them in until i can find a way to dispose of them.
that's the last thing which is making me just a little bit uptight. the inside of the house, except for one small corner in the dining room beside my computer desk, is an organisational dream, there's not an ounce of clutter or mess (not even in the space i just mentioned since even that stuff is laid out relatively neatly) & everything has a place & is in its place. as for that spot next to my desk, well, once i have a table there, there'll be no room for the things on the floor & some of those things will have a permanent place on the table, such as the sewing machine.
actually, there is one place in the kitchen which bugs me a little bit. the pantry. i have some largish tubs into which i want to put all the pantry things to allow easy access to everything (just pull out the tub to get to something hard to reach or to clean the pantry shelves), but i haven't yet got around to putting them in there. also the bottom shelf is full of plastic plates, cups & storage containers & is a bit of a mess. (i know i said that i wanted to avoid plastic, but there are definitely occasions when it's useful, such as the picnic i went on the other day.) maybe once the garage is clear of boxes, i can find a place in there for all the plastic. the large tv cabinet, which i was using before i got the low coffee table to put the tv on instead, could be good for that stuff. at the moment it has some of smiley's toys in the bottom of it, but i'm planning to put all of his toys in some storage space under the stairs, so hopefully that'll be empty sooner rather than later.
things are coming together quite nicely. everyone who's visited has been very impressed with how well organised my place is. as silly as it sounds, i think i have ikea to thank for that. well, them & howards storage world. lol!!
visitors - 09:36 AM
after having two visitors in quick succession, one staying with me, one staying nearby, my life is returning to normal again, although now i'm sort of wondering what to do with myself at times.
don from kansas was here for a couple of days & i showed him around. we did have our picnic at the botanic gardens as we'd planned which was very nice. it was a lovely cool day, which was a great relief from the major heat & humidity of the previous week.
i left don at his motel on thursday evening as he was planning to drive to gladstone the next day & then picked up sherry, my best friend from melbourne, from the airport later that same evening. sherry stayed here with me for three nights & left on sunday afternoon. it was wonderful to have her here. we're such good friends & we always have amazing things to talk about. i miss having her here, actually, but she's planning on visiting again maybe around april next year, so that's something to look forward to.
hopefully i'll be having another two visitors come to stay with me just after christmas! nicola & her hubby, jack, are driving through brisbane on a bit of a camping holiday (i think) & so will stay for a couple of nights or so. they're both lovely & i'm looking forward to having them stay here.
