$100 just in time for christmas - 01:46 PM
(filed under 'general')
awesome! a month or so ago, i got an offer from virgin money with my credit card statement for a free nokia 6131 flip phone on a $20 a month plan. i took it since i've wanted a flip phone for a really long time & since i spend about that much per month anyway. it was an extra great deal though, because it also included a bluetooth ear piece thing & a $100 voucher for woolworths & all the other stores which they own, which includes dick smith, tandy & big w to name just a few.
that voucher arrived in today's mail, just in time for the last of the christmas shopping i have to do tonight. woohoo!
mystery creatures - 08:37 AM

when smiley, myself & don were at the beach a couple of weeks ago, a little girl came up to show us some odd sea creatures she'd been collecting in her bucket. in all my life of going to the beach, i've never seen anything like them. any ideas what they are?

swimming lessons - 06:51 AM
smiley's been having a block of swimming lessons this week. my sister had her two girls booked in at a pool near her place & i thought it was a great idea, so i booked smiley in at the same place & time so that the kids could play together afterwards.
it's five lessons, five days in a row. they reckon they learn so much more that way than the same number of lessons spaced out once a week. i guess it's because they remember exactly what they did the day before & they feel so much more comfortable coming straight back to the pool each day.
smiley's been doing really well. he's had lessons before, when we were in bahrain, but this is the first time he's ever been in the pool without me or daddy or his nanna or poppy with him, so the first day he wasn't happy going off into the water, even though i was right there at the edge of the pool, with the teacher, lynn. i ended up getting in there with him & helping him to do some of the activities. the second day he was still calling out for me & wasn't so involved, but smiled & was happy while lynn held him in the water to do the activites. lynn was very pelased with him & said for me to go & get him a certificate of bravery at the front desk. it's very cute. he seemed impressed to have his name on the little certificate.
yesterday i had an appointment elsewhere which i'd made a month ago, before the swimming lessons were booked, so i dropped him off at monica's place & she took him there & kept an eye on him during his lesson. as is usually the case, when mummy's not there, he did really well. mon said he took part in all the activities & had a really good time & was even really keen to get into the pool as soon as possible!
when i turned up at the pool after my appointment, i took him to the kiosk to get a lolly & lynn was there on her way out. she told me how well he did & seemed really proud of him. i was very proud, too. it's wonderful to see him growing & learning like that.
so today is our second last day & i'll be there with him for this one & tomorrow. i wonder if he'll go backwards now that i'll be there with him again? since he did so well yesterday, i'd be surprised. i'm looking forward to seeing how well he's going. i think i'll bring my camera today to see if i can get a few good shots of him. might not happen since my camera is on its last legs, but maybe i'll get some moving pictures on the video camera instead.
i'll have to check with the staff at the front desk, since they have signs up about cameras only being allowed if they're authorised. what a pain in the bum. i have no interest in getting pictures of anyone but my own little boy, thank you very much.
