quiet times - 07:47 PM
i really feel it when christmas & new year comes around. the net is so quiet around those times & i always feel a bit lonely & out of touch. perhaps i need to make more offline friends. that's a bit sad, really, isn't it?
creative uses for a pen holder - 08:37 AM
(filed under 'smiley')
i retired an ugly old pen holder (pen caddy, stationery caddy, whatever you want to call it) when i got a nicer one. smiley took possession of the old one &, all on his own, began using it in ways i would never have thought.

drinking metho? - 07:48 AM
when i went with my friends to the woodford folk festival the other day, i brought along my trangia stove. nicola & jack already had a camp stove with them, but i haven't had the chance to use my little camping stove yet, so i thought i'd bring it along, just in case we needed a second one. i didn't have any methylated spirits to fuel it, though, so on the way out, we stopped at the hardware shop.
i was dressed comfortably, ready for a two hour car trip, & i hadn't put my shoes on since i was bringing my heavy doc martens to cope with the possible mud there & didn't really want to have to wear them in the less then roomy conditions in the car (mond you, that was only because i'd shoved my bag down near my feet). i was wearing my new scooby-doo t-shirt that nicola had given me & with my bare feet & lip piercing, i guess i looked rather young-ish.
so i kind of danced in there, all excited about the trip & asked if they had any methylated spirits. she pointed me to the right place & i went & grabbed a bottle. i took it back to the counter & i'm sure she thought i was some dodgy youth going to drink the stuff, because she half joked to me saying, "surely you can afford something better to drink than that?" i laughed & said, "thankfully, yes!" especially considering that nicola & jack had bought some bailey's & cointreau for us to drink.
she mustn't have been quite sure yet, because she asked me what i was going to use it for. i told her it was for my trangia stove & that we were going camping at the woodford folk festival. she must have believed me at that stage, because she warmed up a bit & said how she hadn't been camping for a long time & we had a short chat about camping in the rain.
i wasn't really concerned that initially she thought i might have been planning to drink it (yech. i can't imagine anything worse! i'm so glad i'm not someone who's so down & out that i need to drink metho to escape reality). i mean, i did kind of look the part of the wayward youth. lol!

happy new year to those of you who are already in it & to those who are about to cross into it. my wish is that it brings you only good things.
