the customer isn't always right - 11:03 PM
(filed under 'linky lurrve')
this is a fantastic article on how people acting like customers can be incredibly rude, disrespectful & plain old mean.
the woman who writes it actually says something to people who are acting like spoiled little children. fortunately, i don't come across that sort of behaviour very often, but i think i might take a leaf out of her book & start to do the same when i feel someone is being so rude & selfish at the expense of someone else.
it's really worth a read. it's not that long, but it makes you think.
having worked most of my life in customer service jobs (although mostly i've been annoyed by customers who are just dismissive rather than outright rude) one of my life mottos is that i will never be a 'customer', i'll simply be a person in a shop. i also always try to give the person behind the counter (or on the other end of the phone) a smile & a friendly "how are you?"
i always said that this rock in space will be a lot better place when this species is gone. moving on to topic, i too have seen ranting customers. i have stepped in to defuse some and have only caught the wrath of the customer a few of these times. as well i have felt frustrated oven inept service, but i have always tried to make an unpleasant situation bareable. for this story on your link, the tag "i'm new" should have watered down this particular asshole. he obviously thinks intimidation is his only answer to civility. obviously he had overbearing parents.

I like to think that the people in the shops are the ones who are right (not always though). They're the experts, not we, else we would have their jobs, wouldn't we?
