first day report - 07:13 PM

smiley had his first day at kindy yesterday. i've been meaning to blog about it since he came back, but somehow i got really busy between then & now.
when i dropped him off, i had quite a few forms to fill in, so i was there for an hour while he played beside me, taking various bits & pieces from the craft table & playing with them. eventually he actually let one of the teachers draw him away from the table, but only as far as the jigsaw puzzles & then back to the table again. incidentally, he'd found a piece from a puzzle outside on the path where i suppose a kid had taken it & dropped it. we took it inside & when kerryn took him over to the puzzles, he ran back to the table & grabbed the puzzle piece. he recognised it as a piece from one of the puzzles! she was amazed, as was i. he's rather a clever little chicken, is my boy. *grin!* 
when it was time for me to leave, he cried & said, "want to go wiff you, mummy! want to go with you, mummy!" & we had to pry his little arms & legs from around me so that i could leave, as i suspected might be the case. it made me sad, of course, but i knew he'd be fine. never-the-less, i felt a bit touchy until i rang about half an hour later & they told me that he only cried for a few minutes before he joined the other kids & started playing alongside them. i knew he wouldn't cry for long, but it's still upsetting to see.
when i got back at the end of the day, he was being helped by one of the teachers, kelly this time, i think, to get a drink at a water bubbler. he saw me & ran up to jump into my arms & give me a big hug. that was lovely. he then ran off & jumped all over these big covered foam shapes that he'd been having fun playing with. he loves shapes. it was sort of one of those show & tell things where kids will suddenly start playing with lots of things or showing you lots of things simply because they like you. he usually does it to visitors that come to our house, but this time it was directed at me. i'd missed him terribly, so to see that he'd had such a nice day & was happy enough to show me something fun that he'd been doing, made me happy as well.
i asked him if he'd like to go again next week to play with the kids & he said he did. when i asked him about his day, he told me that he'd found a really big snail & that when he put it on the table it came out of its shell. i'm pretty sure there was no snail (since he'd been playing with a few little snails we found in our backyard recently), but he'd obviously had a fun enough time that there was nothing terrible to report. lol!

one of smiley's rather cute things he says lately is when he wants something to make him feel better. like i might give him a kiss on a bump to make it feel better, or he might have a cold drink or something.
yesterday he was asking for a biscuit or something to make him feel better (better from what, i don't know. it was just a good excuse), but he says it like, "can i please have a bikkie to feel me better?" hee.

smiley is a laugh. i left the ironing board out & he was trying to climb on it. i told him not to because it's not safe etc. he told me he just wanted to sit on it, so i said, "please do not sit on it."
then he asked me, "what about a dog?" so i told him that dogs aren't allowed to sit on it, either. lol!!

who knew that in the quest for the perfect self portrait i'd be using muscles in ways i haven't used them in years? yesterday i took a self portrait of me hanging upside down from some monkey bars. i had to get up & down three or four times to make sure i had the shot just right & it seems my body is telling me that i shouldn't do that again, or perhaps that i should do that again more regularly, because muscles in my arms, shoulders & legs are really sore. lol!!
