chatty on a manic scale - 02:28 PM

when smiley was with audrey & i at the hospital in the midst of his high fever last night, he was really chatty. chatty to the point of being almost manic (not medically-speaking of course. i mean manic in the same way that you might call someone depressed who's really just a bit down).

i wondered if it was just the excitement of being at the hospital with all those people around, but i think it really is a side-effect of the fever, because he's woken up from his sleep just now with his temperature quite high again & he's chatting about anything & everything again.

he tends to be a chatty child anyway (can't imagine where he got that from, i say as i look around innocently), but not usually to this extreme. now that i know he's not in any danger from this fever, it's actually quite amusing.

fever - 02:02 PM

smiley's been a tad sick these last couple of days. the night before last, he was a bit warm. not warm enough to even take his temperature, but just warm enough to notice. however, he wasn't showing any signs at all of being ill, so the next morning he went to kindy as usual. i did mention to them that he was a bit warm so they could keep an eye on him. at about 3pm, they called to let me know he'd woken up from his sleep warmer still, his little ears all red from the fever & crying a bit. they gave him some panadol & i left to pick him up.

he was fine for the rest of the afternoon, except that he had a sleep in the early evening, which is unusual for him. he woke up at about 7pm with a raging fever & complaining of being cold. he even seemed a little bit delirious! i gave him some panadol, but i was quite worried by then & so i called audrey to get her opinion. she offered to come with me to take him to the hospital. we did so, but ended up waiting for an hour & a half with still no sign of anyone but the triage nurse seeing us. by that time his temperature had come down a bit (although he was still quite warm) & he was seeming to be more himself again, so we went home without waiting to see the doctor.

i gave him more panadol before he went to sleep & he didn't need any more until 6am this morning. he's had a touch of diarrhoeah, but aside from that & the big sleep that he's still having now since 10am (four hours so far!), he seems to be okay. he hasn't needed any more panadol since this morning, so i guess that he's successfully fighting off whatever it is. all that sleep is surely helping.
