story-telling - 10:17 AM
i don't mean story-telling as in lying, i mean story-telling as in telling a story. smiley loves his stories. not ones from books, necessarily (although he does like me to read some books to him), but rather ones that his nanna tells him or that i tell him.
nanna (audrey, my mum-in-law) is the best at telling stories. she makes them up on the spot & they're huge adventures usually involving smiley & a cast of characters often including crocodiles & monkeys & all sorts of other people in his real life or in the lives on his dvds or favourite books.
he's started to tell stories on his own now, too. just now, he was walking around about to start eating his fried egg on toast & walked up to me talking about a fork. i got him the fork & he walked off with it, saying to himself, "thank you, said riley." he's still now chatting to himself, continuing the story as he eats his egg on toast. so cute. lol!
That's so cute - and so fascinating. As an early childhood trained teacher, i never cease to be amazed at how children aquire and use language, and then the concept of make-believe. I LOVED working with children - you could see the wheels turning in their heads as they made sense of their world and learned more and more about it.
Ooohhh you're the first visitor to my blog. I only started it today. How exciting!
