testing a palm - 12:28 AM

i'm looking at buying a second hand palm tungsten t from an old friend. in fact, i'm writing on it now, lying in bed.

i haven't said anything about it here because i've still been looking into it, but i'm considering getting into doing proofreading & editing. i want work that i can do while i'm at home with smiley, but i want to be able to take the work around the house with me, not be chained to the computer where i can't hang out with smiley.

so this is where the handheld device comes into play. i was looking at the palm lifedrive (jade has one & gave me some excellent info on it & let me have a play), but it's out of my budget at the moment. this one is an excellent solution in the interim. i can use it & get to know if upgrading to the much newer model will be worth the (lots of) money once i have enough work to justify that expense.

wayne said to play with it for a week before deciding to buy it & giving him any money, but i think i already know that it's going to be very useful to me. i used to have a palm ages ago anyway (& then an excellent ipaq), so it's all coming back to me pretty quickly how much i loved using one. i was only using it for personal use back then & i found it to be excellent. how much more useful will it be used for actual work? very, i would say. *smile*

it would be great. only drawback might be the smaller viewing area with a large document and one that contains more than just text; e.g., graphics and such. i've never tried one, so its a knee jerk thought. would you also be able to download/upload from anywhere as well? you know, work while visiting somewhere.

Just thought I would chime in on the Palm. I have a Sony Clie TH55 that I use for my medical transcription reports. They require loads of proofing and I have found the Palm OS very helpful. I have Docs to Go so I can read Word, Excel, Power Point...I think you will find the Palm incredibly useful!
