public transport in sydney - 02:40 PM

(entered on my handheld while in sydney & uploaded later.)
public transport in sydney is so much better than in brisbane. i guess they have the population & infrastructure to support it. brisbane is a lot smaller, in population & area, than sydney.
hellie's lived in sydney for six years & has never used, or even procured, a train timetable. even in suburbs relatively further away from the city, the longest you'll have to wait for a train, at least when it's close to or during peak hour times, is fifteen minutes. with trains as frequent as that, you don't need a timetable.
in brisbane, you have to know when your train or bus is due. if you don't time it right, you'll usually end up waiting at least half an hour for the next one. if you live more than half an hour's drive out of the city, especially if you're travelling outside the busier times, then an hour between services is not at all unusual. it's not convenient in the least & it's substantially quicker & easier to drive. about the only time public transport in brisbane is better than driving is if you have to drive on major roads right over peak hour.
i guess as brisbane's population grows, which is happening quite quickly as more & more people move north from sydney & melbourne, they'll have to improve public transport services.
