a night out with the girls - 09:49 AM

last night i went out with hellie, nicola & her sister, louise, to a simply gorgeous restaurant called the victoria room. it is absolutely beautiful in there. the soft, golden lighting is provided by lovely complimentary lamps* & is subdued, but not so dim that you can't see properly.
the dining area is a quite large room cleverly broken up with delicate cane hanging curtains & a few carved wooden screens. there are free-standing tables & chairs throughout, but around the sides are a number of booths.
nicola was coming directly from work, so i arranged to meet hellie in town & we made our way to the restaurant together. we arrived to find nicola & louise seated in a booth to the side of the stairs. they'd already ordered a drink, so we looked at the menu over a glass of champagne each.
the food was amazing & served very differently to the usual full plates of meat &/or vegetables. each item on the menu consisted of several small pieces of one delicate & delicious item to be shared with your dining companions. for instance, our entree was bread with six different delicious dips. for the 'mains', we shared fried haloumi in caramelised onion, some meatballs in a tomato-based sauce, goat's cheese balls & lamb backstrop (i assume it's a certain cut of lamb) on skewers with a piquant sauce. everything was an amazing & perfect mix of flavours by a masterful chef. the haloumi was a big hit.
nicola & hellie are both good friends of mine but they'd not met before last night, but the two of them, & louise as well, got along so well. i was so pleased to see my lovely friends enjoying each others' company. i wouldn't have said i was nervous about it, but throwing friends together into close proximity who were previously strangers, can occasionally be a recipe for disaster. however, the evening was a complete success. in fact, hellie enjoyed their company so much that she's invited both nicola & her sister to her birthday party soon. very nice.
it was my last evening in sydney & it was such a lovely way to end my visit there.
* the lamps weren't really complimentary to take away, of course. it was just a bit of a running joke at the end of the evening which amused us all greatly, mostly because it was actually funny, but helped along a great deal by the three bottles of drink we shared over the course of the evening.
