the other day, my mum brought around a teddy bear for smiley. it's one of those bears that you 'buy' from careflight when you make a donation. this one is a pilot bear.
mum brought it around when smiley happened to be at nanna & poppy's so she left the bear wrapped up in its plastic bag so smiley could open it.
amazingly, he didn't want to open it straight away. after a few days, though, when he did open it one evening, he decided he was going to take it upstairs to bed straight away. since then, it stays in bed. when he goes to bed, he lays the bear down beside him & pulls the blankets up to its chin. if he notices that the blankets have moved, he fixes them again so his bear doesn't get cold. the first night he even fell asleep with his arm over the bear. so very cute.
if it wasn't so cold that night, i would have gone downstairs to get my camera to take a picture of him lying there with his arm over the bear. i might get a chance another day.
he's never been quite as attached in this way to a toy before. he was quite enamoured with his maisy toy for a while, but he never tucked her into bed quite like he has with this bear.
i haven't asked him if he wants to name the bear yet. mostly he doesn't name things, he just calls them what they are. such as his green dog is called "green dog" or just "dog" (as in, "where's my dog?") & his stripey cat is called "stripey cat" or just "cat."
it's not for lack of imagination, because he has plenty of that, i guess he's just not into naming his toys.
