playing shop - 09:34 AM

smiley's current favourite game is playing shop. he started with this a few weeks ago at nanna & poppy's house & it's the longest lasting game he's ever had.

they have a section of the house downstairs, a few rooms, that are up higher. a kind of split-level bit. one area of it is quite open, with a raised barrier (about knee-height if you're up in that room or about stomach-height if you're down in the main lounge area) all along one side. it's almost like an open rumpus room area. ages ago, audrey made curtains to go most of the way along the open wall which separates it from the main lounge & has turned it into a large guest bedroom. this is where smiley & i stayed when we were visiting from bahrain for mum's wedding & where shroom is now staying until all his paperwork is done to take him to belgium.

so this shop of smiley's is in shroom's bedroom & the uncurtained section of the barrier is the shop counter. he lines everything up on top of the counter or behind the counter & you have to come to buy things. he even has some coins for his shop: some australian coins & a mix of foreign coins from thailand & bahrain. sometimes you pay for the things you buy, sometimes the things are free & sometimes you're lucky enough to get some money from him as well the item you're buying. capitalism is a concept he hasn't quite got yet. heh.

the number things he has available to sell has been steadily growing. he's got empty containers, jig saw puzzle pieces, scissors, cups, lollies, coloured tennis balls, a small plastic shovel. i can't remember all of the things, because it's grown from one small bag which he was bringing back & forth between our house & nanna & poppy's, to a pile of things that fills a good sized box. the shop is currently living full time at nanna & poppy's palce.

this morning he asked me for a bag & put into it a bunch of his things which had been collecting on the headboard behind our bed. it's for his shop, of course. every day he adds more & more things to his shop. at this point, it looks like we're moving back to rudi & audrey's place, one toy at a time. lol! *chuckle*
