huge vomit - 04:47 PM

smiley & i went to ikea this afternoon to pick up a few containers that i needed & on the way back he had a huge spew in the car. biggest one ever. actually, he did have a frighteningly large spew once when he was just a baby, but that was all breastmilk so it didn't smell terrible like this one.

this spew was made up of cow's milk from breakfast, some homemade banana chocolate milkshake, & some chicken, chips & chocolate mousse from ikea. yeah. that smells just about as good as you might imagine it would smell.

i pulled the car into the back of a shopping centre & cleaned up smiley as best as i could. i got some above my right boob when i was trying to get him out of the pool of spew that was his car seat, without spilling more of it from his lap down onto the already partly covered floor of the car.

he handled it very well & was more worried about the little wooden stacking toy that i'd just bought him from ikea, which had also been covered in spew. he also rather randomly commented that the mozzies wouldn't want to come in the car with that smell. lol!! *chuckle* we can only hope.

i got him out & stripped him off & then rinsed him off as well as i could with our drinking water. i'd bought some little white cloths (they're kind of face cloth size) while we were at ikea & was very glad for them, because they helped in the clean up. i had to duck across the road quickly when i saw some people out on their verandah to beg some plastic bags in which to put his spewy clothes.

i cleaned up the inside of the car & his car seat as best as i could. meanwhile, he'd found one of his much-loved books (that had fortunately avoided being spewed on) in the back of the car & amused himself with that while i did my best to make a clean place for him to sit.

i was sure that i used to have a big towel in the car, but it wasn't there, so i used the last few clean ikea cloths to lay over the spewy parts of his car seat before putting him back in. with all the spew that was unable to be cleaned up, we had to leave the car windows open. with him dressed only in just his undies, i used a picnic blanket to cover him up for the trip home to stop him getting too cold.

smiley was fine. he even fell asleep on the way home. the inside of the car still reeks. i'm not sure that i can do any more than i already have, so i think that i might call a professional car cleaner tomorrow to get the inside steam cleaned or something. it's really gross smelling in there.

i've stripped his car seat of its cover & as many straps as i could remove & put all of it in the washing machine along with the spewy cloths & smiley's shorts, t-shirt, shoes & socks to soak for a few hours to try to get rid of the smell. i washed the frame of the car seat as best as i could do it & it's now in the backyard, drying.

ugh. spew is gross. it's even more gross when it's got chunks. why is the smell so hard to get rid of? hopefully the soaking in the washing machine will get rid of it. mind you, i've done well up until now to avoid a spew in the car as big as that one. i guess one really big one in four years is a pretty good record.

i'm pleased that it was just me & smiley in the car & i didn't have some poor friend travelling with me. i love my son & can (barely) handle his spew. someone else's kid's spew is not as easy to deal with. bleah! *chuckle*

bicarb soda. sprinkle it all over where you can, and then brush or vaccuum it off later.

(works for cats and dogs messes too)
