smiley is a very determined little boy. when he sets his mind to do something, he hates not being able to finish it. even if it's something quite difficult—he doesn't mind getting help with it—he must complete the task.
just now he was playing a game on the computer where you controlled a little man on the screen who had to push some boxes around into certain palces on a kind of maze. he did some quite well, but had blocked some of the boxes into a corner. he started the game again & again & when i finally helped him with the difficult boxes & then he finished the last few, he was immediately happy & wanted to move onto another game. he didn't even want to go onto the next level of that game. he just wanted to try a new one.
the other day at dad & tosca's place, he was drawing a very complicated picture on the white board that contained numbers & the alphabet & all sorts of his favourite pictures that he regularly draws. kassia & luca were trying to get into the act & were rubbing out little bits here & there or trying to draw over the top of it. he was getting really frustated & finally i spoke to kassia & luca to ask them to be patient & wait until smiley had finished, & then they could have a turn (despite them being perfectly within their rights to want to use their own whiteboard). they were very understanding, thankfully.
he worked hard on the picture for at least half an hour, making sure every detail was just right. as soon as he'd finished, i asked if he was ready for kassia or luca to have a go now. he said yes & happily began to rub it all off with the eraser.
i was really surprised. after all that work, i was sure he'd want to leave it up there for the rest of the night. dad was surprised as well. he'd been observing him getting so frustated when it wasn't just so & was also sure that he'd want to leave his picture there.
smiley's very determined & very paricular. he knows exactly how he wants things.
