for business or for people? - 03:10 PM

it's so difficult to tell, these days, which businesses are truly interested in helping people—& making a reasonable living from it at the same time, & i have no problem with that—& which ones really are in it only for the money & bugger the consequences for everyone else.

news & media reports of almost any kind can be twisted to prove any viewpoint you choose, so who do you believe? surely everyone, even individuals not involved in that business, has a vested interest in one viewpoint or another, so how do you get the full story?

statistics & studies are the same. you can use them, depending on what information is analysed & what's not, & which results are released & which ones are not, to prove almost anything.

do the individuals in any large company, even the ones higher up, know the full story? if a company is large enough, then how can any one person really have full knowledge of the inner workings of its business?

you could say that asking around & getting public opinion is a good way to find out how reputable a company is, but then if that company is as large as, say, coca-cola, 3M, microsoft, then their carefully engineered reputation & influence is enough to pull the wool over the eyes of the the majority of the world, so you still can't get the truth.

it's frustrating, confusing & depressing.
