traffic on boxing day - 04:54 PM

i've heard that the traffic heading up the north coast (which is the way we have to go to get to the woodford folk festival) on boxing day (i've also just learned today that you don't have that public holiday the day after christmas in the usa) is really, really bad. like standstill traffic. you don't move.
i don't particularly like the thought of doing that in a car with no air conditioning & with an impatient four year old in the back. i've found out from the folk festival people that season pass campers can set up from 2pm on christmas day!
i'm wondering now if we should head off on christmas day, instead. the other option would be to leave really, really early on boxing day morning (like 5am) to get there in time for when the front gates open at 8am. i'm not really a morning person, so that option doesn't appeal so much. i suppose one extra day of camping won't hurt.
it'll actually be two extra days of camping to what i was thinking of originally, because the festival doesn't finish until midnight on the 1st of january, so we wouldn't be leaving there until day time on the 2nd of january.
i'm very excited about it.
