clear, then rain again - 05:51 AM

the rain's back. it's been raining fairly solidly for most of the night. funnily enough, in a way i prefer this to the heat & high humidity of the past day or so. it had been sprinkling on & off, but in between, it became hot enough to dry up the mud somewhat & to give me a mild sunburn across my chest, shoulders & the top of my back on the first day that was sunny enough for me to not need my rain jacket.
it started sprinkling in earnest last night while we were watching the fire cabaret outside the circadia tent. smiley was all geared up to watch the rest of the (non-fire) cabaret under the tent, but after the hard work of all that busking, he fell asleep on my lap. i could have stayed for the show, & sort of wanted to, but i had to carry him home asleep in my arms & i preferred to get that over & done with as soon as possible. it's not a very long walk, but more than far enough for me to be carrying a dead weight of 15 kg (about 33 pounds) or so. fortunately, the rain had eased off a bit at that stage, so at least i didn't have to worry about smiley's mostly uncovered back getting soaked.
overall, i'm pretty happy with how prepared i was for the rain. the huge tarp is a very good thing, that's for sure.
there's a spider in here. it just gave me a fright crawling near me along the inside of the tent. it's small enough to not freak me out completely. just a little bit, instead. it's also small enough to not want to challenge me when i waved my hand near it.
i've been religious about keeping the tent zipped up, but i guess that the tiny gaps in the corners where the zips meet are just big enough to let in small spiders & the odd ant or two that has wanted to shelter from the rain.
