last full day - 05:42 AM

happy new year!
far out. how did 2008 arrive so quickly?
today is our last full day here at the festival. it's still raining quite solidly (there's not been much pause in the rain to speak of since last night), so everything at our little camp site that isn't clothing or bedding is pretty much soaked through. it's going to be pretty messy packing up.
standing at 'the little folk shoppe' yesterday while i was buying a t-shirt, i heard a couple tell the stall attendant that they'd been flooded out & were leaving that day, earlier than originally planned. smiley & i are so fortunate that everything has stayed about as dry as it could.
the importance of the right camp site is paramount, it seems. i suppose it's the equivalent of the well known rule to never camp in a dry creek bed. the problem, though, is that anyone who arrived later than christmas day probably didn't have much choice as to where they could set up camp. we arrived only two or three hours after the very first opening of the gates & even then there must have been hundreds of campers already set up ahead of us.
unless you're someone who specialises in the flow of water, it's kind of difficult to tell where the water's going to go when it starts raining. right at the very top of a hill would be a safe bet for avoiding being washed away, but there's not really that option here.
i was considering starting the packing up process today, but i think i'll hold out in case it dries out overnight.
