more good things for camping - 11:07 AM
i have a few things to add to my list of successes & lessons learned regarding camping.
sucesses:
- tent peg mallet with a hook on the end - i had no hammer at all, let alone one specifically for driving tent pegs into the ground, so i got one from the camping shop that i bought most of our gear from. the one they had comes with a hook on the end. it's a brilliant idea. it's not only good for when the peg has been hammered right down into the ground & you can't get your fingers around it, but it gives you a really good handle to hang onto when the peg is stuck in quite hard & you have to use all your weight to get it out. it's also convenient for hanging it onto your belt loop or onto a tarp pole when you need to put it aside for just a few moments.
- hanging toiletries bag - i got a toiletries bag from the camping shop that's got a good sized loop/handle at the top that you can use to hang it up. the front flap/lid has a good hook on it too, so that when the bag is open, the hook at the top of the flap hooks onto something giving you easy access to the contents. it also comes with a shampoo & conditioner bottle section that is velcroed in & has its own hook on it so you can take just that part with you & hang it up when you're actually in the shower.
- the whiz - the whiz plus, to be precise. this was one of the very best purchases i made for taking camping! since it was just smiley & i, there were times i had to go to the toilet when he was either already asleep in the tent, ready to go to sleep, or else i just didn't want to bother getting him all dressed & ready for a trip to the toilet just for a quick wee. i got to use it heaps. mostly i used it in the dark when people couldn't see me.
lesson learned:
- a container with a sturdier lid - put the sundried tomatoes into a container that the lid will stay on! i didn't actually have to deal with this until just before when i unpacked the bag of tinned things into which i'd also put the small plastic container holding the sundried tomatoes in plenty of oil. yuck.
