smiley just called out from the lounge room to ask me, 'mum. are you pregnant yet?'
i looked up in surprise & said, 'huh? pregnant? why do you want me to be pregnant?'
he then replied, 'because i want a friend.'
ohhh. kind of cute & kind of sad & sweet at the same time.
i didn't even know that he knew that me being pregnant meant that he'd get a 'friend'. i'm sure i must have explained it to him at one time, but i didn't realise he was listening so well.

maybe the friend thing also comes from having seen how other kids who have siblings interact with each other. like kelsey & brittany and maybe stephanie & abigail and any others he knows.

i think "the friend" statement is more profound. if you don't have many kids around you, a pet might be worth exploring. perhaps a turtle or some other easy to manage. still, the concept of baing pregnant relating to more kids is an amazing concept for a four year old.
