socks for hellie - 06:52 PM

i started another pair of socks that i was originally planning to be for me, but then someone gave me the idea of making a pair for hellie, who was just in town for her sister's wedding.
she stayed with us for a couple of nights & so i got to try it the first one on her foot to make sure it fit well. then i finished the second one this morning, so i'll probably mail them to her when she's back on heron island (she's living & working there).
these are the socks. they fit me quite loosely, but since they're made from yarn with a bit of stretch, they shrunk down nicely enough to be able to take a decent pic of them on my small(er then helen's) feet.

shroom's gone again. for two months, he says. he's off to the philippines for a holiday. it was to be just one month, but then his best mate decided to come along so he extended it to two months.
smiley went to the airport this morning with his nanna & poppy to see him off & seems to be okay with it, although i'm sure that he doesn't know exactly how long two months is. when i asked his just before if it was nice to have his daddy around for a little while he told me that it wasn't a little while. it was a long while. it was only three weeks that he was here.
shroom told smiley a few nights ago that he was off again & it surprised me that smiley didn't then turn into a velcro boy with his dad. on previous occasions he's not wanted to leave his side after he's heard that he's going away. maybe he's become used to him not being around now.
we'll see how he copes over the next two months.
