seeing someone - 08:48 AM
i've been seeing someone. he's an old friend from about fifteen years ago. i knew him all that time ago with a bunch of friends. the whole group of us used to hang out at his house.
i hadn't seen him in about fifteen years. possibly as recent as ten or twelve years, but either way, it was a long time. all that time ago he was married with a family, but he & his wife split up five years ago. i heard the news from a mutual friend about a year or so ago that they'd split up. it was quite surprising at the time.
so he & my mum ran into each other about five or six weeks ago at what turned out to be a mutual friend's dinner party. they knew they recognised each other, but took a minute or two to realise who the other person was. they chatted for a bit & he gave his contact details to mum to pass onto me to catch up since it had been so long since we'd seen each other.
when mum told me she'd run into him & gave his details to me i thought to myself, 'how lovely to catch up with an old friend!' & was excited to hear what he'd been up to for all those years we hadn't been in contact.
we went out for a bite to eat & had a really nice night out. it seems there was a mutual attraction because a week later we caught up again & since then we've been seeing each other as often as possible.
it was a surprise to both of us, because all those years ago there wasn't even a hint of anything other than platonic friendship. aside from him being married with a family, he & his wife were in a kind of mentor role to the whole group of us. also, i was a very young 21 at the time & he's 14 years older than me, so even if he had been available at the time, i had never once thought of him in that way.
he has three children. the first two i knew years ago. they were around 5 & 9 at the time. the oldest son is now 24 & the younger daughter is 20. he also has a younger son who just turned 8, who lives with him during the week & his mum during the weekends.
things are going really well. it's so nice to start a relationship with someone i've known for such a long time & to not have to go through all that 'getting to know you' stage to make sure he's not a freak. he's very far from being a freak, in fact. he's stable, reliable, caring & really lovely. not only that, but he knows me well & yet he still likes me. lol!
his name is bruce. he makes me very happy.
