those in queensland—& probably throughout australia, since it was all over the news—will already know about this, but i thought i'd blog about it for those further afield who hadn't heard about it.
yesterday, a major communications cable was cut by contractors working on a water pipeline.
so yesterday morning, i woke up in a kind of bubble: my home phone, by mobile phone & my internet were all non-functioning.
for me, it was just a bit of a pain in the arse to not be able to look up places on the net or even call directory assistance to find what i was looking for before i left the house on a small mission, but for many others throughout the whole of the state (queensland is 2.5 times the physical size of texas, to give our friends in the usa an idea of how large an area it is), it caused major distruptions to business & to personal lives.
