- (see all news for this day)

almost all my own gear - 04:37 PM

over the last few days i've been making three sets of table covers for the tables at my market stall. they turned out really well. it was a bit of an effort.

while i've been working for jo, i was using all her equipment & getting an idea of what might work better for me when i take over as site distributor. one of the things i was keen to do was to make fitted table covers that can be thrown over the tables easily instead of using black sheets which have to be sort of pinned/clamped/clipped up to make them hang well. jo has been meaning to make table covers for ages, too, but she's been so busy with all the shows & things on that she hasn't had a chance to do so. what with smiley & i having a low profile at home while he's been sick, i had a fair bit of time to dedicate to it.

at eagle street, the shade cover is 2.4 metres wide & my stall is on a corner, so i use two tables side by side at the front on an angle. at kelvin grove i'm under my new larger shade cover (3 x 3 metres) so i set up with three tables at the front. at both places i have one table at the back on which i place the stock in a decorative way to look all pretty.

i could have made two single covers & one double cover so that when i set up at kelvin grove i'd use one single & one double to cover the three tables, but it looks much nicer to have the covers going all the way across all the tables. so instead, i made one for each possiblity: a single, a double, & a triple cover. it used more fabric & was more effort initially, but in the end it'll be less hassle for me to do it this way. it'll look much more professional to have the three tables covered properly.

so, after checking my list just now, the only things that i'm still using of jo's are the two door mats for customers to stand on (not necessary at all, but it looks nice & inviting & helps us to stand out from the other stall holders), some little black crates (the stock for eagle street is stored & carried in these. i also use one to put the water jerry can at the right height to be able to use the tap on it to fill up the rinsing water jugs & one is used as a bin for the used paper towels), a calculator, & the little plastic tackle box in which the money is carried.

these last things won't be too difficult to find. i think i'll look for them next week, though. i've made a few trips out & about this week to pick up gear for my stalls, but with smiley not being so well, i didn't want to be out too much.

in fact, i see just now that he's fallen asleep on the lounge room floor while i was typing this. i guess it's time for a nap for both of us.
