within two weeks - 08:28 AM

it's been freezing cold over the past two months, but in the last two sundays at the markets, from having to wear seven layers of clothing (& i'm not joking in the least. i actually was wearing seven layers of clothing) just to keep warm standing still in the shade all day, i am now able to wear just jeans & a t-shirt with the occasional putting on of a light cardigan to protect from the cool wind.

i was actually really quite excited to not have to rug up so much that i was starting to feel like the michelan man. perhaps i'm just overjoyed easily, but it was one of the things which kept me happy all day.

it's amazing how quickly it's changed. when you get up ridiculously early every saturday & sunday morning, it tends to stick out in your mind when you have to concentrate so hard that early in the morning to think what layers have to go where on your body & in which order just to avoid freezing to death. so when those layers start changing—& so quickly—it also makes an impact.

seriously, it was a real drama just to keep warm every week. the saturday markets at kelvin grove weren't so bad because i'd get some sun during the day. there's often a bit of a stiff breeze blowing up by the afternoon, but having that sun (shining near me, if not actually on me) for most of the day made a real difference. on sunday though, at eagle street, my stall is tucked under the corner of a building. there is often a cool breeze blowing right by one half of my stall & the sun makes an appearance between the tall city buildings for only about an hour during the whole day. it was really horrible trying to keep warm in those conditions.

the temperatures were probably really lovely for some people who live further south & who are used to that sort of weather, but in brisbane, it's usually a lot warmer. brisbane hardly ever sells woollen clothing in the shops since we almost never need it, so when it gets so cold, we're simply not prepared for it. if i lived in melbourne, i'd have a full complement of woollen winter coats & jackets & pants to match any occasion. in brisbane, i had to do with jeans, thermal underwear, calf-high ugg boots & my various other layers. even with all of that, i was still so very cold all day. it was awful.

so that's why i'm so happy that the weather has turned so quickly.

give me a few months & i'll be complaining about trying to keep cool. lol! *chuckle*
