i had my first ricky ponting experience the other night here in abu dhabi. i didn't meet him or anything. what i mean is that it was the first time that his name came up at the mention of me being australian.
i don't follow the cricket (or, in fact, almost any televised sport), so i know of ricky ponting only by what others have said & how he's been portrayed as a bit of a media/marketing slut, for want of a better phrase. apparently he does advertising for many & varied a product, rarely anything to do with cricket, in so many places in the world.
so my first experience was with an indian taxi driver. he asked where we were from. when we said, 'australia', he replied, 'ahh! ricky ponting!'
