henna for the kids - 10:46 AM

yesterday was smiley's regular day with our home education group. we went for a visit to the northey street city farm, in windsor, near the city. it was a good visit.

afterwards, we did our usual thing at the park, where the kids play together for the afternoon.

it was my first day back from being away in abu dhabi, & since i had henna on my hand (front & back), i brought along some henna i'd bought in abu dhabi just in case anyone wanted some done on them. once one of the mums said she wanted her hand done, quite a crowd gathered around & then a line up of kids. they had the permission of their mums, of course, & so i hennaed a pattern on the hands of many of the kids.

on the older kids, the ones old enough to make sure they didn't smudge it before it was dry, i did a larger pattern, across one side of the hand, or across both sides, but the younger children mainly got a fairly small pattern since it was possible they'd smudge it. it was interesting making designs for the boys, since up to that point, i'd mostly been copying the pretty floral pattern that the sudanese girl had done so beautifully on my hand while i was in abu dhabi. i stuck with some swirls & leaves for the boys, while the girls got that as well as little flowers.

one of the little boys just wanted a smiley face. that was easy enough. another little boy just got a star with some dots around it. easy, too.

one of the girls had the idea that for next year's spring fair (we had this year's the week before i went away) i could do henna. a great idea! by then, i'll be even better at doing it. this year & last year i sold fudge, but it'll be a nice change to do henna, instead. i can draw some small patterns & designs on paper so that people can choose what they'd like to have. since it's only silver coin prices, i can charge something like 10c for each small pattern & 50c for a larger one.

i bought five cones of henna & even with redoing my hand, then some on my foot, ten to fifteen kids yesterday, & more down my arm last night & this morning , i've still got most of the first tube left.
