the finches are nesting - 08:52 AM

the finches are desperately trying to build a nest.
initially, they were tearing up the newspaper from the bottom of the cage. that didn't seem to be working very well, because most of the paper was ending up outside the cage. so smiley cut up some paper into strips for them, but again, it was ending up outside the cage everytime they tried to stick it into the top corner of the cage.
last night we cut up some lengths of yarn for them, but they're not having much luck with that, either. just now i put in some skinny weedy type grass from the yard to see if they have better luck with that. it's stiffer & not as wiggly as the yarn, so maybe that'll work better for them.
they're getting really agro at the quails, too. they've been chasing them away & making loud noises at them.
i put their nesting box back in the cage last night, along with the wool, but they don't seem interested in using it. i guess time will tell to see if they want to use that or the (what seems to me) rather precarious corner of the cage.

a shocker of a week last week - 06:17 AM

last week was a shocker. i think it didn't help that i was really tired, but even if i wasn't, it was still a shocker.
not necessarily in the order they happened:
- made a loss for jo at the markets on both saturday & sunday (on the weekend previous to this one) & had another loss day this last saturday.
- caught every single red light on the way to the sunday markets the previous week when i was already running late.
- i scraped a green line with my bumper bar across the back of a white car parked across from my garage when i didn't turn tight enough.
- i pushed one side of my garage door out of its sliding gutter thing (not sure what that's called) with the market gear that was strapped on top of my car when i didn't lift the garage door quite high enough.
- i started to drive off & lost the tables which i use at the markets from the top of my car all over the road when i didn't realise i'd left them up there not strapped on after packing all the gear from the markets back into my garage.
- smiley was a huge pain in the bum at the markets on saturday in so many ways, complete with hiding my eftpos terminal at one point, causing me to think it had been stolen. i was just about ready to kill him at the end of that day.
i think that just about covers it.
after such a terrible week, i decided that the turn around was going to be this last sunday. i had a decent day at the markets, with good sales & lovely weather. i managed to do my excellent trick with spreading my tables all over the road that evening, but that seems to be the last of the annoying things.
