the collapse of abc learning centres - 06:38 PM
(filed under 'general')

as much as this may provoke the ire of those who have their kids in those centres, i'm actually quite happy to hear about the financial troubles of abc learning centres.

i'm not happy that this may leave a shortage of places for children in an already crowded child care market. this must be very difficult for those who are worried about finding another place for their child to be looked after during the day.

what i am happy about is the possibility of these centres being taken over by other people or companies who actually have the interest of the child as their main concern, not the interest of their shareholders. as far as i'm concerned, a child care centre should not be about making maximim profit for shareholders.

my sister & my best friend are both extremely involved in the care of young children (monica was director of child care centres for several years & sherry has worked in child care for quite a few years, too) & neither of them had anything good at all to say about child care centres run by abc learning. i'd heard similar mutterings from others, too. a child centre with staff that are unhappy will not make for happy children.

i wish that the abc centres will be taken over in short order by caring people who will run a child care centre the way it should be run: for the children. if the company doesn't collapse completely, then i hope it'll be taken over by people who have ideas of how to run the business that align closer with the idea that child care centres should be about caring for children.

pms & other things - 06:23 PM

far out. major pms, the massive job of cleaning up my pig sty of a house, & a very stubborn child just does not mix.

it's just as well that i don't watch commercial television & have to be put through possible heart-string-tugging advertisements that would easily bring me to tears in my delicate emotional state.

ugh.

the worst thing about it is that i really don't have anything about which to be emotional. it's purely hormones. it's really rather frustrating. especially considering that i'm not naturally a terribly emotional person. in touch with my emotions, yes, but not emotional, per se.
