lessons learned for the day - 10:30 AM

two lessons i learned today:

1. don't put new flannelette sheets on the bed without washing them first unless you're happy to have fluff sticking to the bottom of the doona cover, the top of the doona cover, all over anything you wear in or within five feet of the bed & in a three feet radius on the floor around the bed so that it looks as though there was a very localised snow storm in your bedroom.

2. don't start vacuuming the aforementioned doona cover to remove said fluff unless you're aware that your arm is going to ache from the constant back & forth, back & forth, back & forth movement & you're willing to keep doing the whole thing despite knowing that it's going kill your arm & it's a much bigger job than you thought it would be.

i hope you can learn my mistake.

don't drink off milk - 10:36 AM

note to self: don't drink off milk. it'll give you really bad diarrhoea.

just as well i noticed the milk was getting close to its use by date this morning & i smelled it before i gave some to smiley. turns out the tummy rumbles & terrible diarrhoea i had last night was because of the milk i had before i went to bed. i suppose it was on the edge just enough to not taste terrible, but close enough to being off to not agree with me. then again, with the cold that i have, perhaps it did taste a bit weird & i just didn't notice.

barefoot - 06:46 PM

taking a ten minute walk in the city, barefoot, to pick up smiley from being babysat, then another ten minute walk back again, picking up a piece of glass on the way back & giving the bottom of my feet a black makeover which has taken about three days to shift, is not a good idea.

if you're wondering why i was walking barefoot, it's because my shoes gave me a nasty blister on the back of my heel. mind you, the pain from the piece of glass was still more bearable than the pain from the blister.

lesson one:
don't forget the white rice cooking on the stove & leave it for an hour to boil dry.

lesson two:
don't try to put all that burned rice down the kitchen sink.

lesson three:
don't do it just when the hardware stores are closing so that you can't go & buy a plunger until morning.

doh.

i really must find the charger for the batteries for the little digital camera. then again, i could just stick two ordinary AAA batteries in it in the meantime ..
